Over the last half century, hair irons or nowadays called hair straighteners have become a mandatory fashion accessory for every fashion and style conscious woman. From the sixties, women believe it or not used pokers (from fires) to get their hair extremely straight, and this process and practice gave way to today’s term ‘poker straight hair’ as a coined phrase. Going into the eighties, with big perms, curly locks and wavy glam rock enhanced styles, the hair straighteners somewhat waned in popularity. However in the nineties straighteners came back into fashion and modern hair styles are so varied that they demand a product that is versatile, otherwise women would need so many hair care appliances that the cost of managing their styles would be immediately cost ineffective.
Modern day hair straighteners do so much of the above in that they not only straighten hair to give it a shiny, flat and poker straight effect but also to help create waves, curls, and stylish fringes, it is no wonder they are so popular amongst the women.
For many women before hair straighteners, if they had curly or wavy hair that was unmanageable and simply too hard to control, then they had to wear a hat or keep their hair short otherwise they would be continually frustrated by their hair. With the straighteners however, they could keep their hair straight and regain some control over that aspect of their life for the first time for many of them. Likewise for women with straight hair that were just desperate to try wavy hair or section their hair to try two styles in one!
In order to use your hair straightener product to style your hair into curls and ringlets, section off areas of your hair with clips and start from the bottom layer of hair up to the top of your head. Using the straightener, you then simply, enclose a small section of hair into the appliance and slowly curl it up, watching you don’t burn yourself. Simply carry on in this manner until all sections are styled.
The straighteners are even more valuable when you think of the features of your face that they can help you to define or even re-define. To emphasise strong cheekbones you could work on straightening your fringe or top layer of the hair. This helps to show more emphasis on your good features and also bring out how beautiful you are.
Even men are using straighteners in today’s world, with short hair cuts, you can find many men’s straighteners out there that are built to focus on men’s fringes for example. Many salon straighteners can be found in small plate sizes (which helps with shorter hair) to around a few cms in width.
It’s all well and good to be able to create any style you wish on your hair but the main thing is to remember to stay safe and don’t keep the straighteners too close to your scalp and head. Also by buying sprays and creams that protect your hair from excessive heat damage is also a very wise move if you consider the heat that the ceramic plates can build up to when styling your hair. There also are sprays for the plates themselves but the main thing is you want to keep your hair and so should look at protecting it as well as getting a heat proof mate to place the hair straighteners on when you put them down and check yourself in the mirror, as many house fires have been started in this way.
